Are you looking in the rear view mirror?
Posted by: | CommentsOr are you looking ahead? It is time to focus on what is in front of you and stop obsessing on what is behind you. If you are holding a grudge and full of resentment you are living in fear and focussed on the past. Be done with it already if your tired of the drama that happened then I am sure those around you are as well.
If you have a need to tell stories over and over again and create new audiences for your old stuff you are really wasting time. There is no moment like the present to get into the solution and be forward thinking. We have to learn and process our experiences so that the lessons are learned, not repeated and we encounter similar issues in the future with boundaries and sanity.
I have consulted with litigation participants who were intent of not letting go of the fight until they were broke and convinced them that letting it go was winning and they moved on to greater successes. As long as they held on to the baggage they had no room to let in the positive energy to grab even better opportunities. It is not always important to be right or to win an argument sometimes its just as important or more so to end it.
We can look at what is behind us easier than we can look into the future, but the future can be predictable most of the time. I have proven that over and over again. Any situation is either an absolute or has a measure of probability it really just is a bunch of calculations and moves which determine our destiny.
Throw out your rear view mirror of life and file the memories away and use those experiences to help yourself and others and move towards the brighter future.
What is the value or definition of time?
Posted by: | CommentsI was asked about “time” in a response by a reader and have spent some “time” this morning thinking about a response. We hear often “what time is it?”, “how much time will it take?”, “how much time do you have?”. Time is often a question in my house with my family and in my business with my clients. Time is the measure of space and the question well answered in a Forbes article just this year so instead of reiterating what the experts said in this article you can read their definitions of time.
Many years ago I stopped using an alarm clock after finding it too shocking to my system to awake with one and although I am able to keep time which is fairly consistent with real time not everyone has this luxury. I have had days where my stress gets elevated and I tend to lose track of the actual time it is, but for the most part when I am calm and relaxed I am aligned with the universal clock and the time where I am.
As I age I find that there is more than enough time to accomplish anything I want. There is no rush. What you dont finish right now you can finish later. The agendas of others can often affect our freedom in time such as your family, boss or others dependent on you. They may ask that your time be aligned to their time. You have a choice and can either commit to others interpretation of time or stay commited to your own clock.
I find people focused on consumption of time are less productive than those who don’t worry about it. I find people who are looking at clocks or watches often offensive to those around them. I find that people who are always complaining about other people being late seem a little self centered and those that run late are not always doing it to be disrespectful. Some of the most productive people I work with work best when not on someonelse’s time and yet there are those that need to be micromanaged and have a time request put on them. I often try to avoid paying on a time or per hour basis but rather on a project basis as I tend to get better results and my money’s worth that way.
The definition or value of “time” is best if you own it and use it responsibily and productively.
