We must prepare to define 2009 and not let it define us. Taking action to make a difference in your life as well as the lives of the people around you will come to the forefront as suffering will increase from recent and continued hardships felt around the world.

Here is a list of things I feel can make a difference if practiced:

1. Try and eat anything that you can hunt, fish, harvest or pick and refrain from processed foods.

2. As your light bulbs burn out replace some of them with fluorescent bulbs and turn off your lights in unused spaces.

3. Complement yourself and one other person every day.

4. Get back to basic staples and fundamentals. Use less and save more.

5. Drink a glass of water before every meal or snack.

6. Learn or accomplish something new and teach something you already know to someone worthy.

7. Help an unemployed friend get a job.

8. Make an effort to know at least 5 of your neighbors before there is a tragedy.

9. Get involved in politics and have a voice either locally at the state level or nationally.

10. Volunteer. Find an organization where you can volunteer your time or services.

A new year, a new administration, a new chance to finally make a difference with you and with the world. Selfishness, Self-centeredness, greed, waste and laziness is out this is the time to be prepared with your “A” game.

I am a bit partial but the American Red Cross and Global security Institute are two organizations that I believe are easy to support and necessary. There are many resources and opportunities to fit your schedule and if you are unemployed this is a great networking opportunity and a way to fill in gaps on your resume.

3 days left – more to come. Let’s defy the odds and together use each other to turn this mess around.

This is my first week back after a crazy vacation in Thailand and the avoidance of the death trap at the Taj in India. So with charitable spirit and gratefulness for life and family I will offer email support for free all week. Feel free to contact me via the contact page on here and I will get back to you quickly with some great totally free coaching and consulting support all week long.

Happy Holidays!

5 ways to improve your day.

Here are 5 ways to improve your day and get away from all the bad news.

First – Enjoy yourself. Finding just a little joy every day will help motivate you through the tough times. Take in those moments that put a smile on your face and notice more of what is going on around you. Stop by and watch kids play in the park or a little league game it really doesn’t matter what it is just surround yourself with some laughter and joy.

Second – Learn something new. Add to your brag book and learn something new by taking a class or reading a book or trying something you always wanted to do. The less time you sit around participating in the drama of gossip and bad news cycles will do less for you than denying the negative and puttiing your energy into something positive.

Third – Find a partner. Everything is better when your sharing your successes with someone so find a partner in life or in business and spend time rekindling partnerships you already have and using them to leverage efforts towards your goals.

Fourth – Clean out your closet the one in your home or the one in your head. Get rid of everything you have lingering around that really has no value to you anymore but is still of value to someone else. Don’t always feel like you have to make something off the baggage and clutter sometimes the gift is more rewarding to the cash you earn trying to sell it.

Fifth – Take care of your kids or mentor one. Just enjoying some time with your family and especially with your children will do wonders for improving your life. If you don’t have any kids find one in the community to Mentor and show up for them. Taking the focus off you and your needs for a short time and helping shape our youth for the future by sharing your strengths will reinforce what you know and develop a generation better than our own.

Feeling down or just lagging in energy? Put on your favorite music and get your groove back. I have watched many clients see an increase in productivity in their life and those around them with just a moment of uplifting music in the morning and the afternoon and a calmer sleep with a little relaxing music before bed.

You will be amazed and how much easier it is to get the kids out of bed and motivated for school, to get through a task and to re-energize your day and improve your office staff’s productivity when you play some great music.

There is all kinds of music and different music motivates or de-motivates people differently so a song that works for one may not work for another but its worth a try and turning off the TV and the over played news debates on negative views of our society and economy is not helping anyone.

I say its time to turn off the TV and turn on the music.
